Thanks to its location and the climate Asolo has been a town since prehistory. With the advent of the Romans it was brought to be an important city with baths, an aqueduct, a forum and a theatre but it was only with the hegemony of the Venetians, who left an indelible mark onto its architecture and its art, that Asolo reaches its maximum splendor.
Located at the border with the province of Padua, Castelfranco was founded in 1195 when Treviso felt the need to guard the border and dispatched a colony of 100 families in a purpose-built castle. The name Castelfranco indicates the colony of families who lived in the castle and were exempt from taxes (Franco) .
City sited halfway between mountains and lowlands is a transit point for Friuli Venezia Giulia. It was founded around the XII century by a group of noble families who set up a village around the fortifications. Was conquered by Treviso and, after a period of decline under Napoleon and the Austrians, Conegliano was able to rise again thanks to the economic activities.
The city was founded in 1866 with the merger of the towns of Ceneda and Serravalle.
The name is a tribute to Vittorio Emanuele II, first king of Italy. The city was also a protagonist on the Italian-Austian front that brought an end to hostilities between the two countries at the end of the Firts World War.
